Skid Marks support
Hold to drift in, let go to slide out, and keep your kart on a track that narrows every lap.
This page answers common questions about playing Skid Marks: the controls, coins, karts, continues and ads. If you're stuck on something, check here first.
Common questions
How do I steer?
Hold anywhere on the screen to steer toward the inside of the track, and let go to drift toward the outside. There is no other control. On a keyboard, Space or Enter also counts as a tap.
Why didn't I crash when I hit the wall at the start?
Your first lap is practice. The kerbs are blue, and hitting the wall bounces you back and resets your multiplier instead of ending the run. After you finish a lap and drive 3 seconds without touching a wall (or, at the latest, after one more lap), the kerbs turn red and white and the walls go live. You get 2 seconds of grace and a shield: on each of your first two live laps, one bump is forgiven (you'll see SAVED!). After that, hitting a wall ends the run.
Why am I not scoring after my first lap?
If you've finished the first lap but the walls aren't live yet, you don't earn points or coins. This stops you from farming score by riding along the wall. Drive 3 seconds without a bump (the NO SCORE · CLEAN counter in the middle shows your progress) and scoring starts again. If you can't, the walls go live by themselves after one more lap, and scoring starts then.
How is my score calculated?
You earn points as you pass gates around the track (16 per lap), multiplied by your current multiplier. Sparks give bonus points and raise the multiplier up to x8. Skimming a wall and pulling away earns a near-miss bonus.
Why does my multiplier keep dropping?
The multiplier counts down when you stop collecting sparks, and the bar under it shows how much time is left. Grab another spark to refill it. Hitting a wall during practice resets it to x1.
How do I get coins?
Each spark you collect gives 1 coin. Each lap you finish once the walls are live gives 4 to 8 coins, and later laps pay more. You also get a daily reward when you open the game, which grows with each day in a row you play, up to 70 coins on day seven.
How do I unlock and change karts?
Before a run starts, the garage strip sits at the bottom of the screen. Tap the arrows (or use the left and right arrow keys) to browse. Tap a locked kart to buy it if you have enough coins. Choosing a kart you already own equips it.
How does continuing after a crash work?
On the game over screen you may see a Continue button. Your first continue each day is free. After that you can continue by watching an ad, or by paying coins if no ad is ready. You can only continue once per run. You keep your score, lap and multiplier, and for 2 seconds the walls bounce you back instead of ending the run.
If something goes wrong
I keep crashing into the outside wall
When you let go, the kart slides outward, so you need to hold a bit more to stay in the lane. The kerb you're getting close to glows red as a warning. Use short holds instead of long ones.
I keep crashing into the inside wall
You're holding too long. Let go sooner and let the kart drift back out toward the middle of the lane.
The game says I can't afford a kart
The garage shows how many more coins you need. Collect sparks, finish laps once the walls are live, and come back each day for the daily reward.
There's no Continue button after I crash
You can continue once per run. If you've already used today's free continue, no ad is ready, and you have fewer coins than a continue costs, the button won't appear. Start a new run with Play Again.
Ads still show after I removed them
Close the app completely and open it again so it can check your purchase with the store. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy.
My coins, karts or best score are gone
Progress is saved only on the device. Deleting the app, clearing its data, or playing on another device starts you from scratch. There's no account or cloud backup to restore from.
There's no sound
Check that the speaker icon on the title screen isn't muted and that your phone isn't on silent. Sound starts after your first tap in the game.
Your data
Your best score, coins, unlocked karts, daily streak and sound setting are saved only on your device. Purchases go through your App Store account, and the game sends anonymous gameplay events such as runs started, laps and crashes.
